Your questions, answered straight.
No jargon, no sales pitch. This is what actually happens with your money, your schedule, and your clients when you run your practice on Swaddl — including what happens when things go sideways.
Joining, and what it costs
What does Swaddl cost me?
Will there be a monthly fee later?
If I bring my own client — someone I already found myself — does the platform fee still apply?
How is that different from an agency taking 30–50%?
Am I an employee?
Setting up your account
How long does setup actually take?
What do I need to have ready?
My certificate is a photo on my iPhone and it won't upload.
Do I have to connect my Google Calendar? It feels invasive.
Without it you won't appear in automatic matching at all — that's the main way clients arrive. Mia can still send you families by hand, and your own booking link still opens, but it can't offer any call times, so a family who wants to talk first has nothing to pick from.
Google says Swaddl is an “unverified app.” Is that safe?
Why do you need three references, and what do you do with them?
What's the background check, and does it cost me anything?
What happens if my certification or insurance expires?
What can families see on my profile?
Getting paid
When do I get paid?
Bank transfers take a couple of business days to appear after that. If you got the payout email and nothing has landed in your account a few days later, tell Mia — don't sit on it.
Why hasn't my payout arrived?
What does “the family pays Swaddl, not me” actually mean?
I tried to log a visit and it said the family's payment hasn't come through.
What do I have to give Stripe, and why?
Stripe is asking me to save a credit card. Is that right?
It's asking for an email during Stripe setup — which one?
Can I start working before I finish payout setup?
How do I know what a contract is actually worth to me?
What about supplies or travel I pay for?
How do birth clients get paid, since there are no hourly shifts?
Contracts and rates
Who sets my rate?
Who writes the contract?
Do I have to use your contract?
Do I sign anything?
The family asked for changes. Is that bad?
When does the family actually pay?
Your schedule and logging shifts
What does “log a shift” mean, and why does it matter so much?
What if I forget?
I left early — or stayed later. What do I put down?
Can I fix a shift after I've logged it?
How do families book me for an intro call?
Can I turn off new clients when I'm full?
When plans change
I'm sick and can't make a shift. What do I do?
A family wants to move a visit by an hour. Do I need to tell anyone?
What if a family cancels partway through?
What if the family just stops using their hours?
What if I need to step away from a contract entirely?
A family disputed one of my shifts. What happens?
Families, messages, and privacy
Can I message families in the app?
Can Mia read my messages with a family?
Will I get texts?
How do families find me?
Do I have to accept every family Mia sends?
Taxes
Will I get a tax form?
What about quarterly taxes?
Is Swaddl's fee deductible?
When something's wrong
Who do I contact, and how fast will someone answer?
I think I broke something / I clicked the wrong thing.
Something urgent is happening with a client, right now.
I want to leave Swaddl. What happens to my clients?
